I replied to this on Jalopnik, but I’ve learned something in my short time posting. If you don’t post soon after an article appears, you get pushed to the bottom of the list and most people don’t see it. So...
This is what I do with my DD when they predict hail in Kansas.

How many times have you done this?

You need a smaller car

I work construction so I sometimes don’t get to read through jalopnik until late afternoon. I don’t even bother commenting usually.
My project cars are garaged, daily drivers sit in driveway. I got a rock chip on highway today.

I’ll park my cars in the middle of our cul-de-sac because it’s a dead end and there is zero traffic. I’m more concerned about wind / trees falling than hail, though. Luckily most of our serious wind is from the west, and our cars are east of the house. So... if the house falls on the cars, well, we got other problems.

This is nuts, and I love it.

Duesenbergs’ morals here. Can confirm the above statement.

1. remove tractor.
2. park car
it is rare to get hail where I live.

I cross my fingers.

I’ve been mulling this over ever since a big hail storm in Tokyo a few months back added even more dings to my already dinged up Logo. Especially as I have no idea how to get them removed or fixed. There’s probably a good ten of them now on the roof, the hatch, the doors. Even a small one on my brand new hood I got early this year. Argh.

I park in a garage and the shit ass ceiling is disintegrating leaving this shitty white dust on my trunk most nights. Maybe I need a mattress.

I’ve thrown heavy quilts on it when I’ve been home, but our office got caught by a late morning hail storm in May this year and it totaled probably half the cars in the parking lot. Now I drive a golf ball.

Does it baby? It’s gotta hold mom and dad, and then two car seats in back. One rear facing. ;)

2-3 times a each spring season. Not counting the other times we’ve had neighbors down the street who let me park in their garage when available.
I put the mattress on the cab of my ‘00 Silverado once, before I got the Impala. The next door neighbor asked why I wasn’t trying to protect the hood. I was surprised that having a broken window vs. dented hood didn’t occur to him. I can drive to work the next day with dents, but not without a windshield.

We get a couple good hail storms each spring. You can always tell what side of town people live on afterwards (the hail-core is pretty isolated each time). I’m surprised how only a few people keep driving their “golf ball” after it gets dented up.

This is one more reason why I can’t bring myself to step up to a G8 GT, CTS-V or SS. I wouldn’t want to have to deal with this.

I’d do anything I had to

Don’t pack my garage full of crap, which lets my car hide in there.

I look forward to heavy hailstorms because then craigslist becomes the River of Affordable Dreams.
